To commemorate the Platinum Jubilee year, the Windsor Guildhall is hosting its first ‘open house’ style event to give the local community and visitors to Windsor a chance to make their own unique Platinum Jubilee memories in the historic environment of the Guildhall. The Council Chamber is usually open for weddings, private hire events and paid tours so this is a rare opportunity to experience the grandeur of the Windsor Guildhall first hand. A must-see opportunity for anyone with a love of royal history and local heritage or anyone looking for an iconic photographic memory to mark this royal occasion.
On Thursday 2 and Friday 3 June, the famous red doors will be opened, and guests can step inside to see the stunning royal portraits of Her Majesty The Queen and the two beautiful stained-glass windows showing four of the royal palaces – Windsor Castle, Buckingham Palace, Sandringham and Balmoral which were created to commemorate her Diamond Jubilee. Visitors will be encouraged to take photos to create their own special memories and leave a handwritten message for the Queen. The team at Windsor & Royal Borough Museum will be on hand with a mixture of free and paid activities for children including Jubilee themed colouring, a fact sheet, badge and crown making. Paid activities will start from £1 and there is no need to book, visitors can just drop in. Anyone looking to #supportlocal can browse a range of products from small independent Windsor businesses including Windsor and Eton Photo Art and The Tarbay Botanist gin.
Alongside the open day event, the Windsor Guildhall will also be hosting a VIP drinks experience on the exclusive, covered outside terrace area. Visitors can buy Guildhall prosecco, locally sourced beer and delicious handmade patisserie style treats. These can be enjoyed while they sit in the VIP area and soak up the atmosphere of the Platinum Jubilee events from this unique vantage point in the heart of Windsor. Entry to the VIP drinks experience is free on both days on a drop-in basis with tables available for up to six people.
On Thursday the open day and the VIP drinks experience takes place from 3-7pm and is the ideal activity before the Beacon lighting ceremony on the Long Walk at 9pm.
On Friday the open day and VIP drinks experience runs from 12-4pm and is an ideal place to make the most of the extra bank holiday in Windsor.
