Fire, Stones and Bones is a fun and educational adventure that transports guests to prehistoric Britain. Running daily during the local school holidays, from Friday 14th February – Sunday 23rd February 2025, this event offers a fascinating insight into how early humans lived and survived during the Stone Age.

Included in the price of a Day Ticket, this experience brings history to life through interactive daily talks and demonstrations delivered by a knowledgeable team:

• Fire Lighting (11:00 AM and 1:00 PM): A demonstration of how ancient humans created fire, showcasing their ingenuity and survival skills.

• Tool Making (12:00 PM and 2:00 PM): A look at the techniques early humans used to craft essential tools for daily life.

Please note that outdoor demonstrations are subject to weather conditions.

As part of the visit, from 10:30 AM – 4:00 PM, guests can enjoy additional activities at the Museum of Prehistory. They can try their hand at being an archaeologist and uncover hidden treasures in the Dig Boxes, interact with knowledgeable hunter-gatherers, dress up in prehistoric costume for photo opportunities, take part in a museum quiz to test their knowledge, and explore incredible artefacts unearthed in the Cheddar Gorge area.

What’s Included in a Day Ticket?

A single ticket grants access to six exciting attractions:

Gough’s Cave – A spectacular stalactite show cave where Cheddar Man, Britain’s oldest, most complete human skeleton, was discovered, along with details of his remarkable DNA findings.

Cox’s Cave – ‘Yeo’s Journey’ – A multimedia experience that tells the captivating story of how these iconic caves were formed and shaped by water over millions of years.

Fire, Stones and Bones – The engaging event at the Museum of Prehistory.

Beyond the View – A cinematic experience exploring the local history, wildlife, and plant life.

Jacob’s Ladder & The Lookout Tower – A climb up 274 steps leading to breathtaking views of Cheddar Gorge and the Mendip Hills.

The Cliff-Top Walk – A scenic route offering stunning panoramic views of a landscape millions of years in the making.
