About

The American Museum provides a brilliant day out for adults and children.

The New American Garden, Mount Vernon Garden, and The Children’s Garden play area awaits explorers of all ages. From winding paths and colourful flowers to woodland wanders with your four-legged friends (yes, dogs on leads are welcome!) and climbing adventures, there is something for everyone to enjoy.

Housed in a fine Georgian manor house with outstanding views over the Limpley Stoke Valley on the edge of Bath, the American Museum takes you on a journey through American history, with its remarkable collection of folk, decorative arts and cultural objects. The only museum of Americana outside of the United States, it was founded to bring American history and cultures to the people of Britain and Europe.

Each year, special temporary exhibitions are on display in their Exhibition Gallery, and throughout the year there are a range of exciting events planned, including traditional outdoor performances, and family and children’s activities. Visit the What’s On section of their website for more details.

This December, The Enchanted Garden of Light, a trail of illuminations will emblazon the entire house, gardens and woodland in glorious seasonal colour.

The gardens and facilities are designed to be accessible for buggies and wheelchairs. Baby-changing facilities are situated in the Gallery Shop. The Garden Café offers refreshments and you’re more than welcome to take a picnic.

The gardens, children’s play area and café are open Tuesday to Sunday from 10am until 5pm. They are also open on Bank Holiday Mondays and Mondays in late July and August from 10am until 5pm.

Gift Aid increases the value of your charity donations by 25%

The American Museum in Britain is a registered charity and therefore offers a choice of two entry tickets under the Gift Aid scheme. The Gift Aid admission includes a voluntary donation. Gift Aid admissions enable the American Museum in Britain to reclaim tax you have paid to the government. This can significantly help the charity further its conservation, restoration and educational work. (For every £1.00 given to the Museum, an extra 25p is given by the Inland Revenue.)
