Food & Drink
From the wild creativity of Bristol’s street food scene, to the glamour of London’s high profile restaurants, there’s a tantalising buffet of food and drink experiences along the Great West Way. Download our new food and drink map for an overview of the tasty treats you can tuck into as you travel the Great West Way.
Carving a natural path through the fertile farmland of the West Country, the touring route offers an abundance of local produce and regional delicacies. Whether you try it at an unpretentious rural pub, on a foodie tour, or in a Michelin-starred or fine dining restaurant, you’ll be delighted by how fresh and flavourful it all is.
And there are plenty of places to try homegrown tipples, too. Beer, wine and gin are all made along the Great West Way. You can take a tour of one of our breweries or vineyards or just pull up a stool at the village pub and see what’s on tap.
Fancy trying some traditional English food and drink as you explore this quintessentially English corner of the country? Why not try the pub classics at a friendly local pub or inn, treat yourself to a fancy afternoon tea or tuck into a big English Breakfast to set you up for the day.
Don’t feel you have to get dressed up to feast on top notch food and drink either. You can stop mid hike for a roast dinner to remember at a rural gastro pub - and no one will blink at your walking boots and waterproofs. Or you can slip into a small, unassuming neighbourhood restaurant, straight from a day’s sightseeing, and be served award-winning British food. And don't worry about having the kids in tow - there are lots of lovely family friendly places to eat and drink where you will all feel right at home. Even if you've got a muddy canine companion with you, there are plenty of dog-friendly places to eat and drink as well.
Whatever you want to sample, make sure you're not in a rush - linger with friends over a long meal and take your time getting to know the scrumptuous delicacies on offer. The Great West Way is all about slow travel, and that means slow food and drink too.
